The Title IX Office welcomed two new staff members this summer
Gary Sund joined us on July 1 as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Response, a new position created this year to be the primary person receiving disclosures and working to enact supportive remedies.
Gary has spent over 20 years as a social worker in various roles, most recently in public education. He grew up in Hampden, Maine, followed in his parents’ footsteps, and graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Services. He has worked with a multitude of populations, from children to older adults, and has dedicated his career and time to advocating for those most vulnerable, to include having spent time as a foster parent. His experience has allowed him to focus on his passion of building relationships and collaborating with community partners to ensure those with whom he's worked are supported and have a voice as they progress through their journey. Gary looks forward to a transition to higher education and utilizing his experience to support students at Dartmouth College.
Sophia Brelvi joined us on July 22 as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Training. She is responsible for creating and coordinating our training programs, and developing new ways to educate the community.
Sophia graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a double major in International Business and Political Science, and earned her J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law. Prior to her new role, she worked at Morehouse College as the Director of Title IX, Ethics, and Compliance, where she oversaw the College’s compliance with a number of federal regulations and developed programs to improve efficiencies within various departments throughout the College. Sophia is extremely passionate about social justice issues and enjoys collaborating with others to work towards the common good. Additionally, she is committed to the continual progress and collective success of the Dartmouth family while enhancing social and academic dynamics for all students in our campus community.
